Bruichladdich Classic Laddie

The Bruichladdich Classic Laddie, is a whisky made true to the distilleries heritage. Quite unlike any other Islay distillery of the time, it appears that malted barley was not dried using peat at Bruichladdich.

This lack of peat gives the Classic Laddie a complex and floral taste profile. It’s clean, fresh and lively with both the oak and the grain in perfect harmony. Expect wild cut flowers, caramelised fruits, honey and lemon drops.

Bruichladdich was built by 3 brothers, William, John and Robert Harvey on the shores of Loch Indaal, Islay, in 1881. The distillery was successfully run by William until his death in 1936, after which it changed hands many times.

Coming close to closure in 1994, it was rescued by and independent consortium in 2000, and restored to its former glory. The classic Victorian distilling equipment designed by John and built by Robert Harvey in 1881 was retained in the new distillery.

Distillation at Bruichladdich is still done using the original equipment and artisan skills, with no computerisation or modern equipment used. The famous Jim McEwan, was appointed as master distiller in 2000, and was the driving force behind Bruichladdich’s “Progressive Hebridian Distillers” philosophy and subsequent success.
